Head shaving is different — different geometry, different reach, different nicks. Here's the routine.

Why head shaving is harder

You can't see most of what you're shaving. The scalp has different contours than the face. And scalp nicks bleed dramatically because the scalp is highly vascular.

Tools that actually work

A safety razor or a dedicated head shaver (HeadBlade, Skull Shaver, etc). Cartridge razors work in a pinch but they tug. Straight razors are for advanced users only.

Prep matters more

Shower first — really, fully shower with hot water. Wash your scalp. Apply a quality shaving cream and let it sit for 60 seconds. Hot, soft skin = fewer nicks.

Direction matters

Most heads have hair growing in multiple directions, especially at the crown. First pass: with the grain everywhere you can identify it. Second pass: across the grain.

The nick reality

Almost every head shave produces a small nick somewhere. Most are near the ears, the crown, or the back-of-neck hairline. Styptic powder + a damp cotton swab handles them in seconds.

After-care is non-negotiable

Bald scalps are exposed. Moisturize after every shave, and use SPF 30+ when outside. Your scalp is now official "facial skin."
