What is StyptiQ?+
StyptiQ is a styptic powder — 100% pharmaceutical-grade potassium alum in a 2 oz aluminum tin. Used to stop minor shaving cuts and nicks in seconds.
What's in the tin?+
100% potassium alum. No talc, no fragrance, no fillers, no additives. See the
ingredients page for full disclosure.
How big is the tin?+
2 oz net weight (57 grams). Dimensions: 2.7" diameter × 0.9" tall. Pure aluminum with a screw-top lid.
How does styptic powder work?+
Potassium alum is a natural astringent. When applied to a fresh cut, it constricts the small blood vessels and helps proteins in the wound coagulate. The bleeding stops in 5–10 seconds.
How is it different from a styptic pencil?+
Same active ingredient (potassium alum), different form factor. Powder works on cuts a pencil can't reach, doesn't crack, doesn't need water to activate, and one tin lasts 5–10× as long.

Is it the same as an alum block?+
Same ingredient, different job. Alum blocks are used as a whole-face post-shave astringent. Styptic powder is targeted first-aid for specific cuts.

How do I use it?+
Open the tin. Dip a damp fingertip or cotton swab into the powder. Press onto the cut for 5–10 seconds. Wipe clean.
Step-by-step →
Does it sting?+
A little — same brief, mild sting as any styptic. Goes away the moment the bleeding stops, usually 1–2 seconds.
How much do I need per cut?+
Tiny pinch — the size of a grain of rice covers most shaving nicks. Less is more; more doesn't work faster.
Should I apply wet or dry?+
Either works. A slightly damp finger or swab adheres the powder better, but dry application also works.
Can I apply aftershave on top?+
Yes — apply styptic first, wait 30 seconds, then aftershave or balm. Don't reverse the order.
Is it safe?+
Yes, for minor shaving nicks and cuts on healthy adult skin. For external use only. Don't use on deep cuts, infected wounds, or near the eyes.

Can I be allergic?+
Potassium alum allergy is rare but possible. If you've reacted to alum-based deodorants or styptic pencils, you may also react to StyptiQ. Patch-test first.
Is it safe for kids?+
We recommend adult supervision for users under 12. Older teens shaving for the first time can use it the same way an adult would.
Is it safe for sensitive skin?+
Generally yes — potassium alum is one of the least irritating active ingredients available. But sensitivities vary. Patch-test if you have a history of skin reactions.
What if irritation occurs?+
Discontinue use, rinse with clean water, and if irritation persists more than 24 hours, consult a healthcare professional.
Is StyptiQ FDA-registered?+
Styptic powders are regulated as topical first-aid OTCs. StyptiQ is manufactured in an FDA-registered facility in Lawrence, KS, in compliance with applicable cGMP guidance.
Can I use it on pets?+
Potassium alum is commonly used in pet grooming (especially for quicked nails). But we sell StyptiQ as a human product — please consult your vet for pet-specific guidance and dosing.
How long does a tin last?+
A 2 oz tin gives you roughly 500 applications. For a home shaver, that's about a year. For a working barber, 4–6 months of heavy use.
What's the shelf life?+
Indefinite when stored at room temperature with the lid screwed closed. Potassium alum is a naturally stable mineral salt — it doesn't expire.
Will it dry out or harden?+
No. Powder stays loose indefinitely as long as the tin stays closed. Keep it away from steamy bathrooms (close the lid after every use).
What if I drop it in water?+
If the entire tin is submerged, the powder will dissolve and the tin is a loss. Splashes are fine — just dry and screw the lid back on.
Is the tin recyclable?+
Yes. Pure aluminum tin and lid — fully recyclable in standard curbside recycling programs.
Where is it made?+
Lawrence, Kansas, USA. Manufactured and packed in an FDA-registered cGMP facility.
Is the packaging sustainable?+
Is StyptiQ cruelty-free?+
Yes. Not tested on animals.
Is it vegan?+
Yes — single mineral ingredient, no animal products.
